Meet The World

Meet English Bay.

While in Vancouver, I stayed in Davie Village, which was a beautiful area within walking distance to just about anywhere else in the city.  My hotel was 1 brisk 10 minute walk to English Bay, which naturally became a favourite place to wander to.

Art Everywhere!

In Morton Park (Davie & Denman), you’ll find the laughing statues.  These are actually a 2009 bronze sculpture installation by Yue Minjun titled A-maze-ing Laughter and certainly a popular photo-taking spot.  It has become the mental picture in my head when I think of English Bay.  There’s a lot of signage in popular areas/streets of downtown Vancouver, so it’s easy to make your way around.  Somewhere in the area, you can even find a larger-than-life inukshuk statue and (further along) Engagement, a sculpture by Dennis Oppenheim in 2005 at Sunset Beach.

English Bay Beach

I have now words.  Logs that double as sitting areas when they do movie screenings.  Cityscape of skyscrapers and high-rises literally steps behind the beach.  A majestic tapestry of Canadian Rockies in the distant background.  You get all of this in one spot.  About 5 minutes away on foot, you can also catch the Aquabus to other destinations, such as Granville Island.
