Had a Sunday in Manila so I attended church where my aunt usually goes.  I was also reunited with my cousin, Me-an (Marianne) who took time to see us despite being between shifts at Makati Med.  They took us to New Life Church in the Alabang district.

New Life Church

New Life Church Alabang runs like a well-oiled machine.  The worship team is energetic, there is a cafe to have breakfast prior to service, or an early lunch after service.  Turns out this church has several satellite and has planted in other countries as well.  Plenty of ministries also meant that the congregation had plenty of ways to get involved!

This service was led by Pastor Jocel Evangelista (what an appropriate name!).  He reminded me of Joseph Prince and I learned that he had flown to Singapore to observe Pastor Prince.  His wife’s infectious energy and passion left a true impact on me.

Alabang Town Center

After attending service, we opted to have lunch at Fridays at the Alabang Town Center.  We learned that Alabang is a well-to-do gated community that many celebrities and upper-class folks call home.  It is also the area where you can find Filinvest City – the company my aunt is a realtor for!  Pretty neat to see.

Previously, I mentioned my love for spaces that integrate the outdoors with indoors.  Spaces like Greenbelt Mall have a special place in my heart.  Alabang Town Center, locally shortened to “Town,” has a similar theme with sheltered outdoor courtyards in between shops.  One designated courtyard provided ride-on toys for families with young children!

I observed that families in this area really took the concept of Sunday being “Family Day” seriously.  Locals came to the mall just to spend time with their loved ones.  This was a lovely sight to see, but also meant for long lines for any restaurants, particularly after church services.  This just means that you get an opportunity to bond with your family while waiting for your table!  What a Sunday well spent in Alabang!
