Meet The World

Meet Victoria, BC.

Meet Victoria.

Victoria, British Columbia is a flight or ferry ride away from Vancouver, and well worth the trip. A small town with gorgeous views and fun quirks – it’s definitely someplace I’d visit again.  A big thank you to Kevin and Aileen for taking time to take me around for a few hours.

Things to Do

  • Check out the Fisherman’s Wharf floating community of house boats. You may just run into a few aquatic friends popping up to say hello!
  • Seafood!  Indulge.
    • Seriously – any time I’m on the west coast, I’m eating all the smoked salmon that’s available.
  • Shopping in their downtown district is a mix of local boutiques, familiar chains and department stores.Meet Victoria.
    • Explore the local arts and businesses that line the streets of downtown.  Great finds, while supporting local!
  • Butchart Gardens, especially when all the flowers are in bloom.
  • Have tea at the iconic Fairmont Empress.
  • Go whale watching – different tour companies offer this, just ask around!
  • Feeling regal?  Visit one of their castles!
  • Hit a nature trail and go for a hike.
  • Visit the Canadian naval base and military museum at CFB Esquimalt.
    • Note:  KEVIN, please take me next time – and thank you for your service to our country!

Visit Victoria If…

Meet Victoria. You have a day or two to explore and travel over.  There are two direct ways to get over there.  I personally chose to take the ferry from Vancouver (Tsawwassen-Swartz Bay route) which is a 1.5 hour trip one way.  Schedules and fare information can be found through the BC Ferries website.  From there, you can take public transportation or taxis.  I was mesmerized watching the vehicles load onto the bottom of the boat as well.  The ferry very easily also became a part of my adventure.

The second way is by taking the sea planes – something I will certainly try the next time I’m visiting!  Harbour Air is the company that charters the flights between Vancouver and Victoria.

Meet Victoria.I unfortunately didn’t have enough time to visit Butchart Gardens which, I feel, would be a half day type of excursion to really take it all in.  The harbour (especially at sunset) and the floating houses were my highlight.  My imagination went wild picturing what living in one of those house boats must be like…perhaps altogether too intriguing.  Don’t be surprised if I end up in that lifestyle of a while.  🙂  There are also a variety of hiking trails to take and nature paths to walk.  The outdoorsy girl in me was pleased!

I’m definitely returning. Victoria, get ready for me!

What else should I check out the next time I’m back in Victoria?

xoxo,

Judianne
