Cultural Display

The cultural display is just outside the main hall and you can see traditional outfits, as well as the famous Busós which are part of the Busójárás celebration.  These Hungarian characters are thought to chase off winter!  Now that’s the type of presence we need in Winnipeg. 🙂

Food

We were given two dishes – one was the sample platter that had kolbasz (traditional Hungarian sausage), toltott kaposzta (cabbage roll) and langos (deep fried bread).

I had the vegetarian option that instead had a mushroom paprikas dish and pickles.  The mushrooms were very flavourful and went well with the sourness of the pickles.  I’m also now pretty obsessed with this bread.

There are also Hungarian pastries available for those wanting a snack of dessert.

Entertainment

There is a live Hungarian band who has traveled from Transylvania.  The show is set up to look like a lounge with tables on stage with performers dancing to and interacting with the band.  You see the classic bottle balancing dance from the women, and the show (and music) pick up to different speeds.  There was also a number with three couples dancing freestyle, like they were really just enjoying live music casually.

Above and Beyond

The Hungaria Pavilion really made sure that the audience feels welcome.  It was easy to have conversations with volunteers as they came around to check in with you before and after the show.

Thank you again for the hospitality, Hungaria Pavilion!
