Cultural Display

Step aboard for a photo opportunity on the Titanic complete with Captain Jack, and don’t leave without a selfie with their leprechaun!  If you’re up for it, you an even kiss the infamous Blarney Stone!  You’ll also learn about the history of Irish Dance including what has contributed to its different songs, musical styles and rhythms.  If you’re lucky, you’ll even find the pot of gold. 😉

Food

Get yourself nice and full with a bowl of Irish Stew and some Soda Bread.  Top it off with a Guinness or try the Irish Coffee for a night cap.  If you want some dessert, you can have some apple crumble (yum!) or the sticky toffee pudding!

Entertainment

This pavilion had two incredible and charming MCs who have such a great sense of humour.  You will see local talents from McDonnell School of Irish Dance who join the stage with the talented group Damhsa, all the way from Ireland!  This is the type of collaborations that make Folklorama so meaningful – to see groups who keep the traditions alive in their homeland, and groups who keep it alive wherever they now live.  Beautiful!  I found myself not taking a lot of photos and actually just watching  the performances – especially when they did some quick footwork involving a broom!  That’s some real core work!

There was a fun audience participation in which you get to sing along and a clap along with the band.  They also had a solo with the traditional drum instrument and it’s amazing the amount of tones and pitches that one instrument can create!

Above and Beyond

I have to give this one to the MCs.  They had the right balance of providing cultural information while still being entertaining and hilarious.  The audience had a great time at this pavilion and I think the MCs had a hand in that…or the Guinness.  Maybe a combination of both. 😉

Thank you again to the Irish Pavilion for having us!
